Artist Statement
Jim’s current work is a combination of figurative realism set against geometrically simplified backgrounds. He uses the flattened out shapes and colors to create patterns and feelings of movement that help give his figures context. While his most recent pieces have focused on some of the more troubling social issues we face as a nation today, he continues to infuse all his work with a sense of playfulness and whimsy. Jim grew up in the NY/NJ area and is an extensive world traveler. He is happy to call Durham his home and lives downtown with his wife and sheepdog.
