As someone who grew up in a small town in the south, Southern Vernacular is about dualities such as the haves and the have nots, sweet and bitter or chaos and order. These contrasts, plus the relationship of abstract painting to vintage ephemera, address my desire to resolve the conflicted feelings I’ve experienced as a Southerner.
